Hello! Just got my 20D to days ago, and I've been shooting large JPEG. It's been going great, but today I tried some RAW and they're not showing up when I try to copy them to my computer. I don't understand why........ is there something I need to do? I've fully installed all the software that came with my 20D onto my computer and everything.

Thanks for any help.

you need to copy the files using EOSViewerUtility.

Yea, but how? I noticed that they do show up in the EOS Viewer Utility thing when I hook the camera up to the computer, but it wont let me preview them, select them, move them, nothing.

drag the file from in the preview window, over to the left side to where you want to save it (like c: or desktop)

A much more foolproof technique is to remove your memory card from the camera and place it into a card reader that is on USB2 or Firewire to the computer. When the card is applied there, you can copy all files from the card to some directory of your choice on the hard disk. Then let the EOS Viewer Utility have its way with them.

I don't know what's wrong...... I drag them into the files like you said from the EOS viewer utility, and it transfers them I guess, but then I go to see them and it's this white tab thing. No picture....

You gotta 'develop' them before you can actually see the photo.

You're not sure? Go into Explorer and navigate to the folder on your PC that you think you've copied the image-files to. Do you see .CR2 files? They're the RAW files, and will be about 8MB in size. If they are there, try viewing them in the other program Canon supplies with the 20D. If the CR2 files are not there, then make sure you really are making RAW files on your 20D. As Bob said, a USB 2.0 card reader would be a good option. I use mine all the time and never plug the camera into my PC.

If the CR2 files really are on your PC, try reinstalling the Canon software. If you stil can't view them, try installing Raw Shooter Essentials from http://www.pixmantec.com/index2.html.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. What should I do?

CR2 files need to be downloaded via a card reader and USB or Firewire connection. Put memory card in reader. They will not download via connection directly to the camera.

You will see a drive on the desktop, open it and copy the files to EOS Viewer Utility ..should just drag and drop.

The other confusing thing is that some new users will set up their 20D to shoot RAW files. Then they switch the mode over to one of the basic zone modes, like Sports. Well, the camera only stores JPEGs there. It does RAW files for the creative zone modes. As a result, they keep looking for CR2 files, but they aren't there and never were there.

If you had a 300D/10D and are using the sofware that came with them to copy files RAW from the 20D then it won't copy CR2 files, just RAW files. If this is the case install the software than came with the 20D. If it's not, best get a card reader.
