Prefer Type I CF or Type II MD?

Im curious to see what your opinions are on the 2 types of CF available . . do you like the solid state of type I or do you prefer type II? Please include reasons you lean one way or the other in your replies . .

I used to think that Type II was faster but these days I'm not so sure . . . plus the solid state of Type I eliminates many points of failure . . so I think I'm torn at this point . .

The only difference between Type I and Type II CF cards is that Type II cards are a bit thicker than the other. Type II CF cards are not faster than Type I CF cards, neither the other way around. It is true that most microdrives are Type II, but that's not necessarily so.

Did you mean to ask "Do you prefer solid state or microdrive CF cards?" instead of Type I vs. Type II?

Like Jesper said, what's there to like or dislike about either CF types? What's important is what's inside the body. :confused: But, based on your post, I think what you really want to ask is if whether we prefer solid-state CF or microdrive CF cards. If that's the case, I'll vote for solid-state CF cards.

Same solid state beats micro drive.
For trivia, the first two 4 and 8GB CF cards were type II solid state if I remember right. At like $4000 and $5000 US when they first came out.

Based on epeace's second paragraph,.. I am sure Type II means Microdrive..

I have two IBM MDs which have been faultless for three years. That being said, I don't see myself buying another one in the near future. I just snagged a 4gig SanDisk. Yummy! :)

i have to admit i like the MD. I don't know why, one even fried on me, so I sent it back and got a replacement, but I also added 2 - 1gb ultra II cards which I go like.

i think its storage space. i put in the ultras and its 200 photos or so. I put in the MD and my 20d flashes 999, because its much more than that.

but the MD are far quirkier, so now I'm only erasing, formating in camera.

heh . . thanks for clarifying . . . i was under the impression (if it wasnt obvious) that Type I meant solid state and Type II meant microdrive . . . so there are Type I microdrives?

i have to admit . . the microdrive is neat which was th emotivation behind my initial preference for them . . but from the looks of things solid state may be the way of the future for many people . . .

as a sidebar i happened to find a work around for the slow speed of my 2GB Sandisk standard . . . ive found that if i hit the preview button after every 15 or 20 shots and let it process for about 10 or 15 seconds or as long as i can hold out for (i never actually see the preview or even get the hold bars down to zero in that time) that tends to keep the "busy" msg away for the most part . . . it is a drain on my battery but i miss less shots . .
