I can't seem to find much info on this lens or it's cost. Anyone familiar with it?

Very familiar with it unfortunately :(
Having used at least 4 examples (several different versions-I,II,IV,etc) i can safely say it's the worst canon lens of the many i've tried.
A 'good' example of that lens will get nice snapshots plus worthwhile pics that depend on strong 'arty' effect- other than that it really is a waste of time.
Interestingly i've seen some image examples online from owners trying to defend it but even they look lousy.
Like all very cheap zooms it gives 'good enough' images to those inexperienced enough to know better. But use a really sharp lens next the it and it all becomes clear what you've been missing

Thanks Ron. I'm very glad you replied. Just as I expected about this lens. There was an E-bay auction for it and I decided to let it slide when I could not find any worth while info.

dont write it off yet, remove the front element and it becomes a very good macro lens :) must be the front element that sucks :)
