Their eyes really are this color. Lake Crowley, Sierra Nevada Mtns.

It's an eared-grebe, grebes are aquatic birds, they are different then ducks, their toes are shaped more like paddles then the webbed feet of ducks and their bills are different. Ornithologists classify them very differently from ducks. Loons are also a seperate group of aquatic birds.
