I am planning a trip to Beijing, Shanghai as well as some other places in China. I don't need much camera equipment but, was wondering if there are stores which sell Chinese Accessories (such as are sold on eBay) at a good price.

I would also like a lightweight collapsable hiking pole. If that pole could double as an occasional monopod it would be a big plus. This eBay ad says this pole is sold in over 100 sports stores in China. At least one of these stores should be in Beijing and another in Shanghai.

I have been debating on bringing my Manfrotto 688 Monopod and might very well do that and use it as a hiking pole as well as a monopod. It is really quite light for an aluminum monopod.

I would be careful with that "Carbon" hiking monopod. If you look closely at the pictures you can see it says 50% carbon. If you look at some other pictures the carbon fiber is printed on and not from a woven piece of real carbon. The carbon they use is not woven carbon, it is a mat carbon, something like shredded carbon and it is formed into a tube. You can see this in the pictures of the broken monopod. I would just bring your Manfrotto monopod.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Now that I am looking more closely, I see what you mean. Thanks...

In Shanghai there is a electrical market (any taxi driver will get you there). There are a lot of camera accesories there but be prepared to haggle. I got some great bargains its well worth it.

I'm planning to do the same. In my case, it will be in Sham Shui Po in Hong Kong and possibly somewhere in Shenzhen (though I haven't figured out exactly where yet).
