On the way during my move to Reno I stopped in Bishop for a day. Lots of bad weather. Had a break in the clouds. Got many photos like this one.

I love the B&W, plus the quality of the 20D. Nice composition.

Great picture! And the others also. I just passed through the Owens Valley a few days ago and took a few shots. Beautiful place. Did you stop by Mountain Light Gallery? I just got my 20d w/kit lens and PS Elements recently. I can see from your pics I've got a steep learning curve ahead of me. I gotta figure out what you did here, with this shot in particular.

Thanks Sky! Did not make it into Mountain Light Church. I have a house in Bishop, so I'm there all of the time. Congrats on your new fine camera. Black and white is harder to make look good IMO. You will do just fine with practice, practice and more practice.

Wow! That's honestly one of the best photos I've seen in a long time! You ought to enter in the Landscape & Cityscape competition (see my sig)

I like the shot. Although you don't specifically ask for critique, I'd like to suggest that lightening the foreground a tad, to bring out the stump a bit, would give it significantly more impact, IMHO.

I thought I'd responded to this thread when it first appeared. Guess I had a brain fart and didn't press 'Enter.'

Anyway, What I said was substantially this:

The Owens Valley is one of the most photogenic places I've seen within driving distance of Southern California. Bishop is right in the heart of it, and the mountainscapes surrounding it can be breathtaking, especially in winter. I even seriously considered retiring in Bishop, but had to yield to the wife's veto when she learned there were no major malls there.

This is a lovely picture, and I thank you for reminding me what a beautiful place it is.

I can't say much that hasn't been said already. Congratulations on a great photo (and some luck with the weather!)

Thanks Belmondo! The Eastern Sierra is one of my favorite places on earth.

Can always use some constructive criticism. Thanks, will keep that in mind.
