I'm just trying to register my new 20D on the Canon web site (so I can claim my free 256MB compact flash card!!) but every time I try, it pops up with the following error message:

The serial number or purchase date you have entered is not valid for this product.

The date I've entered is definately right - the serial number I've entered is the ten digit number printed in black on the silver rectangle on the bottom of the camera body beginning 1030.....is that the right number? If so, has anyone else had this prob?

Thanks

Hmmm thats interesting.
Is this a UK purchase. I say that because of the paltry 256mb Compact flash card ( £20 ) as opposed to the much greater rebates in the US.

Further is it a Jessops purchase. :(
This is probably paranoia, but sometimes I feel the item may have been returned.
Like I say paranoia.

Yes it was a Jessops purchase in the UK. From what I could tell, it seemed to be brand new....no scratches or wearing, no dents or knocks, and all the components wrapped and taped into their little component bags.Maybe I should try emailing Canon and ask what the prob is...?

Yes, I would certainly try emailing or phoning to make sure it's registered.

256mb Compact Flash...............Shame on Canon.

I thought you had to register the number on the box it came in? I can't remember now, my 350D is a Jessops purchase and I had the card a while ago.

OK....problem solved! Just tried registering it again on the Canon web site and it accepted the number first time! Muct have been gremlins in the system or something!

Thanks for the input

(If you're interested, it was the number on the bottom of the camera!)
