Just what the title says, I am not the type to usually take photos of sunsets but the opportunity was too great to pass up. I actually didn't even have a tripod so I improvised and used a sign post where I was standing....it seemed to have worked. This is only my second time ever doing HDR photos so take that in to account.....

WOW... first HDR photos I actually like... really nice...

Only thing I noticed is that on the second photo, the pink reflection on the ocean doesn't look right... don't know why... is it photoshopped? looks like you blended in 2 different photos for some reason...

btw, what lens are you using?

Thanks alot.
No I didn't use photoshop on these, just Photomatix and LR. The only thing I can think of is it's oversaturated?

I think these look fantastic. HDR is overdone many times, but I think this is the perfect balance.

thanks! I was trying for a balance like that.

I like the first one a lot. The 2nd does seem a touch oversaturated.

Ok yeah, I am going to re-do the second picture see if I can fix it.

which hdr program do you use?

You did a great job with the photos. I think HDR can be tricky at sunrise and sunset because of the timing. One suggestion, I know the rocks aren't supposed to be blue in either photo. Otherwise they look great.

Thanks Noco, good point about the Rocks. I'll fix that.

I used Photomatix for them, three exposures aeb....I also kept changing the metering on the camera because I wasn't sure what would work the best for post.

Was the vignetting done on purpose? You should get rid of it, it would open the picture up a bit.

Good work. I really like #1. The clouds/lighting is very nice.

nice shots. but the highlight side of the waves don't do it for me. the colors make it a little to fake looking for me

I would desaturate the rocks. The HDR process probably turned them blue

I agree with nocojoe, the oversaturation in the sky doesnt bother me, but the blue rocks make you reevaluate the sky. Bring the rocks back a little and keep the sky where it is.

thanks everyone for the comments. No filters. I haven't hone back to hdr since doing those but I am thinking I need to give it another go.
