unfortunately Robyn had to cancel his earlier Boston show w/ the Venus 3 (including Peter Buck, and also Bill Rieflin and Scott McCaughey who are also in REM) due to laryngitis, but he did score the opening support slot for The Decemberists, who were touring on their grand vision _The Hazards Of Love_. that also meant the Decemberists did two sets; the new record and then another one w/ a bunch of their older stuff, and that meant only 30 minutes of playing for Robyn and his band. bummer. as noted in the other post (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=736172), this also turned out to be a soundboard shoot...there was no security barrier, and the tour manager did not let us shoot from the aisles either...as you can see, we were pretty far back there:

I like the last, even with the bass player behind the mic. Can't win em all...

Agree with René, I like the last one aswell. Besides that #1 is nice too. #3 is dark and boring. All shots seem to be a bit soft though, didn't you sharpen them after resizing?

resizing *is* my sharpening action. :D
they might be a bit soft due to shooting wide open w/ a TC.
#3 is dark and boring, but it was best photo i could get w/ most of Peter's face. ah, the joys of soundboard shoots!

Hmmm. Doesn't look like "bicubic sharper" IMO and "bicubic" for resizing might need some additional sharpening... Just my 2 cts ;)

sharpening is still a black science to me...i used to use the Manyk SRS action, but i like to upload full-res jpgs to my website (additional archiving strategy) and i didn't like running that on full-res files (not to mention that i cropped the dimensions would be off from what the image size specifies in the action).

Wow... Uploading full-res JPGs. That takes ages (and loads of web space) to upload!
But then again: the shots above are simple low-res 800 px JPG's. Why not keep a decent full-res photo, run a resizing-and-sharpening(-and-watermarking)-action and then save the low-res as a new file in a new folder?

it's not really that bad...i can upload a gallery of jpgs (depending on the complexity, a 5D2 jpg can be anywhere from ~2-8MB) in about 10 minutes, and zenfolio has unlimited storage.

i probably should. though not a fan of watermarks, personally.

It's in between brackets ;) More as in: get decent web files ;)
