C&C is greatly appreciated.
These aren't even shot with a true macro lens, but you can be harsh as long as its constructive.
:) thanks

I really like number two, can't quite place why! Not so keen on 3 or 4 to be honest, they look like experimentation shots if that makes sense? I often find when I experiment with photos they tend to look like I have experimented!

I like #1 best, it looks gritty and has a lot of character to it, #3 is also interesting even though it is a bit contrived.

I like the second one most, has a very nice "rustic" "used" look to it that tells a story. What kind of setup did you use? What settings?

It's just a macro adapter from a wideangle lens I use on my Sony VX 3000.
It fits on both my 18-55 and my 75-300. I used it on my 75-300 for all of these and it works great. My 430 EX was used on every shot. I'm really surprised at how well they came out.

Interesting to a point... but none of them really capture an interest to me. My first choice would be #1

Very much agree with your statement.

I am going to speculate why some people find #2 more satisfying.
First the focus point - the R dot - is on the one third line, where as in #1 it seems to be more around the 55 and almost in the centre.
Second, the blurred lettering is more interesting in #2 and there's more content detail than in #1. Visually the fstops are more evocative than the text on #1. Probably because there is more and its smaller and the varying degrees of blur.
The field of focus appears narrow but i don't know whether it is or not in #2. But the focus points right on a letter and not between letters as in the first.
And finally, there is a big empty space in the left top corner and on the top right of #1 and a lot more information on the whole in #2.
