i have the standard Canon 75 - 300 USM.

i have been looking to get a bigger lens,

for cost reasons i was looking at

Tokina ATX AF 80-400mm f4,5-5,6

or Sigma 135 - 400. (both around £300)

Has anyone any preferences? or other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.:)

There isn't much info around on those-Hopefully someone here has used either one.

All i can say is that the sigma 135-400 is in aproximately the same image quality class as the 75-300,and that the tokina is probably well built.
:) not alot of help i know..

Thanks Ron, you are correct there is no real info on these lens only manufacturers info.
i am hoping someone will have a bit of real knowledge of their real
performance.

Avoid that Sigma..

It is one of there ancient designs. it may be o-kay optically but the focus is slow and noisy and the older models suffered the "error99" issue on new Canon DSLRs. I'm sure new would work.. but it's not worht the risk.

I know nothing about the Tokina.

Thanks CDS
it is to go on to a 10D.

i enquired at a local photo shop, but i am afraid they were not "clued up" on anything but the canon's...and they are far too expensive for me.
