I agree Roy. I haven't yet mastered the art of the subtle hint like Monty and Ken. :o
I was just so excited to actually have time to sit down and search for a WAIN! Been waaaaaay too busy lately.
I found it with a search of "divers statue wall". That came up with another picture that was unlabeled. From that photo I figured out that it was a fountain and took it from there to locate it!
Roy Mathers
19th of January 2010 (Tue), 05:38
Hi Derek. I actually think that Ken and Monty's 'subtle hints' take a little fun out of the game as well. Surely the fun is in trying to guess/work out the location of the picture oneself - without being helped by otherw. Having someone dropping hints is like an elder brother looking over your shoulder while you do it showing you that he's cleverer than you. Having said that, I have taken advantage of such hints myself!
I hope this doesn't sound too much like a whinge, but it's sincerely felt - and well done for getting it so quickly.

It was a total fluke really. I googled "Italy bronze horse sculpture", and must have then accidentally clicked "shopping" rather than "images". I recognized the horse, but never did find out exactly where in Naples it is, which is why I just guessed Naples.
From the pictures I also don't see how it could be photographed from the other side without the concrete cylinder getting in the way, but then I don't have the advantage of having been there.
I'll root through old pictures after dinner, but may not find much. I need to get out more.:(

Fellow WAINers - could I have your opinion on something please. There are many instances on this thread where people guess the location (or leave clues to it) and then declare that they have nothing to post, so they leave it open.
According to Tom's original rules 'The winner will post the next photo for guessing.' This implies that you should make sure that you have something to post before you guess.
What are your thoughts on obeying this rule?

As a newbie to the site and WAIN (for what my opinion is worth!) I personally have no problem with leaving it open. There are times when I have guessed the WAIN and left it open myself or have a WAIN to post and can't guess, so am happy to step in and post, when open. As for the guesses, they should be left to the poster to supply, when nobody is getting close.

Sounds fine by me Roy, as long as it doesn't discourage new folks from joining in who may not have traveled much (locally or abroad) with a camera in hand. For me, this game has always been about wanderlust - and I enjoy seeing people's photos, as much as I do putting in some research (generally Flickr and Google). It helps me learn more about a place, even if I've never been there.
I guess I'm trying to say that the guessing, is just as important as the showcasing.
And what on earth will we do with Monty? He always leaves it open
