sometimes I've left it open because time won't allow me to watch the thread for a while.
For example if I guessed (correctly) at 2pm; and it was not confirmed til 6pm; if I have commitments that require me to be away from the computer, I left it open rather than leave the thread unattended.
Other times I like to enjoy the WAIN game, but I may have been at a remote computer and I did not have access to my photos to post.
As mentioned above, it is also a chance for a WAIN newbie to step in.
Thanks everyone for positive discussion on this.

Sometimes if I've left it open its because of time differences. For instance if its late in the UK and I'm going to bed, it would mean a long period of inactivity for you guys across the pond until I managed to respond the next day

I don't mind when it is left open - Like Tom said: it is a way to get new members to join the quest. It was the way I got interested in this thread. But I am sure most of the time the winning member will have something to post. And.. we have to allow for the time differences between EU, NA and OC....
Well... here we go again. Wonder how long this one lasts.... WAIN?

For me it's generally not having anything immediately in the queue. Meaning I need to tweak/crop, resize, output, post, etc. Rather than keep people waiting I'll open it up to others. I just need to invest some time getting a backlog of photos ready to go.
In the meantime, is this the Lead Shot Factory in Melbourne?

Interesting read on the previous WAIN:
This photo shows Melbourne's historic lead pipe and shot factory, now enclosed in a glass dome in the central business district. This area forms part of a shopping and entertainment complex now.
link (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Oceania/Australia/East/Victoria/Melbourne/photo542677.htm)
The original use of this building was, as the name suggests, the making of lead shot. Small lumps of molten lead were dropped from the top of the building and by the time they reached the bottom they had cooled and solidified into shot pellets.
I wonder if lead shot is still made this way or if the process is "computerized"?

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken Henk. Cyprus is most definitely in Europe - it's even in the European Union.
If we're assuming Wikipedia as factual, their definition of the EU as follows:
"The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 27 member states,[8] located primarily in Europe..."; further
"The island country of Cyprus, a member of the EU, is closer to Turkey than to mainland Europe and is often considered part of Asia."
To be honest, I've always assumed it part of Europe due to territorial disputes between the Greeks/Turks.

Quai St. Auckland NZ. I knew I recognised the place (and it is also a passenger terminal for cruise boats - just like in Sydney....)
Princes Wharf, Quay St, it is....built for the Americas cup. There are 2 buildings, side by side, both built to look like ships.. over to you...

This is what these buildings look like from the other side... :) When we "did" Auckland we were moored alongside one.
I think one is quite a luxury hotel and some guests were not too happy with all the cruise people looking into their rooms and blocking their view.
I'll be back shortly with a new challenge.

From the height of this pic, that must have been a very large cruise liner!
I shall be jumping off the Sky Tower, soon..............

Paul - Sir Plug - PM'ed me with the right answer (so it can be found!) but wishes to leave it to others to make the right guess and pinpoint it.
So it is still wide open....
