Roy, are you actually looking for the name of this building or just the name of the city/town where you took the photo? Does it have some historic importance or is it open to the public? Of course if Henk already got what you were looking for then this is moot but I thought I'd ask.

The area of the town/city would do. It doesn't have much historical significance but is a feature of the town/city - much the same as some of the buildings in, for instance, New Orleans.

Thanks Roy!
Ismailia and Port Said are the only larger and older establishments not on the Nile. Both have the sort of architecture that you showed us in the WAIN photo. When it was not Ismailia it had to be Port Said. I found a postcard (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_g2ofm4KCX5k/SVds4uYApYI/AAAAAAAAAWo/clR1a_fm5L4/s200/Port+Said.jpg) that showed something like it and managed to discover that was that particular street.
I am off to bed - sorry about that. And will post a new one tomorrow but if anyone has a suitable one in the meantime he/she is welcome to take over. I realise that my schedule does not match most of the others... :)

Wow Henk. You are very persistent! How did you ultimately come up with it?
Initially I recognised the language as "slavic" The word "Gospodin" means "Lord" (both in Russian and some other eastern european languages). If it was not in the Baltic then it must be Czech, Slovak or further south. (Hungarian is totally different and more like Finnish)
When we agreed it was close to Ostrava I started searching in a Flickr engine for moravia and then a house like the one we are looking for came up. From there it was easy...
But... Ken has not approved my find yet ;)
