Sure...and it annoys me to death when I see ads, correspondence, etc. with incorrect usage...I was merely bringing up the point, presuming that Freud's English would be sub par based on his background...

The ironic thing is that I'm willing to bet that he spoke (or wrote) English better than many natives!

Roy Mathers

It's a sorry day on WAIN, when the possibility of discussing phallic symbols (while waiting for Derek) is hijacked by a possessive pronoun lesson. :p

It's all Derek's fault!

DDCSD
29th of August 2009 (Sat), 12:14
Sorry guys! Got caught up this morning!

Well, I'm certainly not going to try and guess which one this is (not with 1446 of them) :)

Nor me!:D

I assure you there is something unique about this one.

Is it east of Antwerp?

Going west would take less time...

Eleven more questions and we would have the answer. Same theory as is used frequently here to zero in on what it's not.

Is it in the first half of marker numbers between 1 & 1446 ?
Then the same question for the remaining 723, 361, 180, 90, 45, 22, 11, 5, 2 and bingo.

Guess any word in the dictionary using the same method in about 17 questions or less.

Exactly what I was thinking, it's difficult but not impossible. We have to assume that this one has a kilometer marking on it. So, Derek, are you still with us?

There is not km marking on this one. I have not removed or blurred anything on it.

I was thinking that we could discuss the primitive artistic fertility aspects of this stone obelisk, and what Sigmund Freud would have deduced from it's shape and size.

Or we could guess the numbers...

Or...it may say "Replica...made in the U.S.A." then we've wasted our 11 questions ;)

Nonetheless, I'll start with one of the larger towns along the route (judging by the building size in the background)... Chartres?

Not in Chartres, and not made in the USA...

That's a good point, it wouldn't be impossible to have a replica on a military base. I'll ask is this in the US?

Yes, it is in the USA!

That's a good point - Derek hasn't actually confirmed what country it's in! Everyone is assuming that it's in France, but it may not be (although it's very likely).

I was wondering if anyone was going ot figure this out without me tossing out hints!

Freud was too high to spell anything :-)

I'll try a random dart at 1147 Derek.

Obviously not 1147.

It's all Derek's fault!

It is always my fault, I'm used to it now!

Now you guys can get back to work on the WAIN!

:-) Wiki didn't say when they renamed it!

From Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Hollywood_Studios#Name_change
Name change

On August 9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_9), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Crofton) announced that the theme park's name would be changed to Disney's Hollywood Studios in January 2008.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Hollywood_Studios#cite_note-wdwnews.com-11) In announcing the name change, Crofton said, "the new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer—in music, television, movies and theater." [13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Hollywood_Studios#cite_note-cfnews13.com-12)
The Florida resort later announced that the new name would be effective January 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_7), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008), adding that it would take several more months to change all affected signage.

Perhaps I'm not au fait enough with the search facilities. I was indeed searching the whole forum! However, when I searched the Competitions forum only, it gave me the thread that it appeared in, and not the exact page - so I still had to look the thread to find the pic. Is that right?

Check "Show posts" instead of "Show threads" under the search this forum dropdown and that should do it Roy!

I'm sorry folks, I didn't realise that I'd posted it before - but you must be very bored to have the patience and inclination to trawl back through all the past posts just to find it!:D

I didn't go back and look, but when I saw it I just knew I had seen it. Ken confirmed my suspicions.

Darcy left it open to first taker, right?

Here is one. A new one, I hope! A tight crop to hide some clues.

WAIN?

It is Europe. Europe, not trying to be North America...

Is that an urn in the center of the structure? If yes - are someone's remains inside?

Is it in Italy?

It is located in Italy.

I am not sure exactly what is hanging at the center of the structure.. I can find photos on the internet, but not a detailed description of the hanging "urn" or whatever it might be.

I stand corrected on the urn. That appears to be an ancient ceramic vase for wine (I think).

Is this a winery?

bahelmer
1st of September 2009 (Tue), 15:44
It's not a winery.

Again, I don't have many details about the hanging "urn" or "vase". I doubt that there is wine in the hanging vase. But we are in Italy, which offers many famous wines, so maybe there is wine in the vase. The evening I snapped the photo, the locals were celebrating with a local wine...
