There are a lot more factors you need to include when determining your shooting fees... How much traveling do you do to get to and from the shooting location? Wear and tear on your equipment? Plus, tying up your entire day means you couldn't book something else, like a wedding... They don't need to know it's your first time. Personally, I wouldn't do it for less than $250-300 for a whole day, and that's probably a cheap rate.

Just remember, whatever you charge them the first time, they'll expect to pay the same the second time, the third time, etc.

I would say that a day rate in the $750-$1000 minimum would be more in order for most work.
If you are going to do it for so cheap, I would encourage you to make sure that you get usage fees as well and that for that price its ONLY your time. Then if they want to advertise or whatever you get usage for whatever they are doing.

As far as your precious equipment goes, remember that salt spray will take its toll on the electronics.
