All of these were shot with my new EF 16-35 II, which is a very sharp and impressive lens.

Thanks!
Oh, BTW, all of those shots are single frames from timelapse films.
Here you can see me setting up my motion control dolly in the evening, which resulted in the moonlit Bristlecone shot:

So, how does your rig work, exactly?

So, how does your rig work, exactly?
It used a stepper motor to move the dolly car & camera between long exposures.

So, basically, the camera rests on the car (as shown above) and the motor is timed to move the car in small increments, from left to right?

Very clever technique but more importantly, fantastic results.
Paraphrasing Ben Hogan when asked what he thought about Jack Nicklaus: "Your photography is at a level with which I am not familiar..."

Yes, that's right. Importantly, the camera only moves when the shutter is NOT open.

So, in the examples of shots you posted...let's say the third shot...are you tracking the planet and taking several exposures, which you then merge into one? Kinda weird, if the camera is only moving from left to right...but, hey, you know how to make it all work...hehe. ;)

Hiya Jay. I think I've seen a couple, before....and that's kinda why I remember the distinct characteristics of the images posted above. They just are, well, different and quite good. ;)

man, your pictures are amazing. this is a little off-topic...but when you do your timelapse sequences, do you have the mirror locked-up the whole time? if so, how do you do that on the 5DII haha, i can only get it to do it for one picture at a time..

Great shots!
I'm going to have to go with another favorite with the telescope arrays. Would love to have that on my wall!
