Is it creepy to want to shoot a family member's funeral?

I've taken a few snapshots at the request of my in-laws when my wife's grandfather passed away. As far as family goes, that's it.

I also shot a few funerals while doing a school project on the life of a funeral director. I was surprised at how open most of the families were with me. Especially military families. They were all appreciative and requested a few prints.

I was hired once to shoot a funeral of a friends Dad. Photographers at funerals are not very common therefore not looked on well by the people in attendance. I was shoved, kicked, yelled at and just over all not liked. Not one of the shoots I would ever care to do again and haven't so far.

I recently went back to the Philippines and while I was there a family member passed away, and thinking back how different it is from here in the U.S. as far as traditions go as far as Filipino's go in the Philippines it's much more of a remembrance and a celebration of the life the deceased had lived. And so the funeral was shot by a videographer and I was asked to take photo's of the procession and at the church and at the house where the the walk to the church started.

It really depends on what your traditions and beliefs are and it wasn't creepy to me when I had been asked to take pictures of the deceased and the family while I was there. It was my privilege to take photo's for the family.
