Was lucky enough to shoot 2 songs at Toads Place this past Saturday. The pics are not the best, as I was right in front and being bumped constantly by the mosh pit just behind me, but it was an AWESOME show!! If you haven't seen Sevendust, I highly recommend it. Their energy is phenomenal!

Guessing this is with the Tamron wide open?
1/50 f/2.8 at ISO 3200. Must have been quite dark...
To bad; some shots suffer from motion blur (2 and maybe 4, depending if it bothers you), others from missed focus (2, 3 and 5).
I'd crop the hand out of #5. Then it's a nice shot.
#1 is technically best, but 3 and 5 convey more energy.

Yep, you nailed it right on the head! The lighting at Toads Place is terrible, which is a shame for such a famous venue (well, up here anyway). Plus the fact I was constantly being bumped from behind by the mosh pit didn't help... lol I tried getting the hand out of #5, I'll look at a bit tighter crop on that one. Thanks!

Wow man, what did you do, you compensated lack of sharpness (OOF or motion blur) with great amounts of ugly sharpening and JPG artefacts? Must have been pretty dark, and I see some nice shots posted here (#3 for me!) but I think these could use some technical improvement (both when shooting, mind your focus!, and in processing, really have a good look to what you're doing to your photos).

Would you recommend shooting there for a concert that won't be so moshy? I might go see Matt and Kim but I'm not sure if I want my gear getting danced or jumped into, I dunno what do you think? Maybe I'll just bring a point and shoot.

I have nothing to add other than I completely concur on your recommendation to see Sevendust. I've seen them several times now, and they've never dissapointed. Second favorite band to see live, just barely behind Nine Inch Nails.
I've got one of John's guitar picks too, sitting at home on my dresser. Caught it after a show about 2 years ago maybe? It was shortly after he rejoined the band.

Toad's is a great place to shoot at IF they have a barricade up. I've shot one show there, Slightly Stoopid, a year and a half ago. They had a barricade and I was fine
