great shot - but maybe using the flash would help put some catch lights in the eyes

Would the flash on the camera be enough or would add on flash be better?

flash on camera would be plenty and in fact may need to be turned down a bit for this shot - i like the shadow around the face and the flash will even that up a bit - so you may have had toturn the exposure compensation down - and by the time you worked that all out the expression long gone :) :)
i often with portrats just leave the flash on to fill seems to work most of the time.
try a few experiments with the camera see what you think

You don't even need a flash. If it's posed and you have control, just move your subject in angle where the light hits the subject. It looks backlit. So if you turned 180, you got nice quality of light hitting your subject.
