Which flash?

Been looking into an external flash for my 10D. I'd like to go with someting decent and stay away from the off-brands like Quantaray and the like. I'd really like the 550, but it's out of my price range. What can you guys reccomend? I use the camera for a little bit of everything. Can you also explain the different metering systems that the flash uses like TTL, E-TTL ? Thx.

Go with the Canon 420ex (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=206436&is=USA) if you insist on a Canon flash. It's the only fully compatible model that is cheaper than the 550.

With regard to TTL, ETTL, etc., check out the EOS Flash stickies at the top of this section of the forum ... there's a wealth of information in there. The 10D utilizes ETTL.
