This was taken at yesterday's AMA Superbike event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. Didn't catch the name of the rider, but it's Suzuki's bike #797.

Coming out of turn 7, he lost control of his bike and couldn't turn out of the bend....

You can see him on the top right of this photo, his legs are just twisted into some impossible position as his bike flips on the ground.

Both man and bike rolls on....

This is when his helmet came off and his head digs into the ground.

Ooof. Lucky day for you, not so much for the rider.

it never ceases to amaze me the severity of falls these guys go though and generally walk away from. I hope he's doing OK too.

Nice bit of photojournalism, that...the whole series tells the complete (well almost) story.

The Rider's name is Vincent Haskovec. The most current information I have heard is that he is still in the ICU but is alert and very coherant. Among other injuries he has a punctured lung, broken ribs and a broken clavical. He rides for the Jordan Motor Sports team and has had a great start to the season.

Here's a link to his condition...

My prairs are with him...

Thanks Skip and skade :)

By the way, heads up folks, I've made a boo-boo with the name. I tried searching the web for the crash and Vincent Haskovec is the only name that made the news. I have been informed (by Craig Stewart) that It’s Norbert Katona (797).

Thank you Ferdinand. The race shows on Speed rarely show these kind of shots.

They are often busy showing the advertising boards behind the riders in focus

as in World Superbike coverage. Not often to see a helmet come off- he really

must have hit super hard! I've been at my local club races as spectator and corner

worker for probably over 8 years and haven't seen a helmet come off. Wow.
