I was with a friend the other week trying to take an updated panoramic shot of this area of campus, and it took a good 30 minutes to get 4 decent shots to stitch together because of so many touring people walking by taking pictures of themselves... the lighting ended up changing too much for them to work well, but I did get a few good shots of people there.

This one I liked in particular, I thought it turned out alright.

Very nice shot! Where is that pretty campus, by the way?

Thanks :)

It's the more easily recognizable part of campus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It's the oldest public university, with the oldest building and dorm, having been built in 1793, a little outside to the right of this shot, where I live on campus during the semester.
This is the Old Well, which was built shortly after the dorm (Old East) was built. MANY photo ops take place here, wedding photos, graduations, etc, etc.

Have you tried using autostitch (http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html). It can handle images with different lighting levels.

no I haven't, I've just always used the photo merge option in Photoshop. I'll definitely take a look at that and see how it works, though, thanks a lot.

Now I just need a better tripod to help keep all of my shots more even... I have an older cheap on that tends to flex under the weight of my camera :(

Autostitch will merge just about anything. I took the attached stitch (Rebel XT + 28-105mm) by setting the drive mode to continuous, zooming to maximum focal length, and making a zig zag pattern (hand held). A total of 17 shots went into this. The zoomed crop was taken right out of one of the originals (don't mind the compression artifacts). My only complaint is that it can take a very long time (hours) with a lot of pictures at high res. Give it a try.

wow, I'm thoroughly impressed with Autostitch. I can stil see a slight flaw in my dorm on the right, where that image was more angled than the rest, but other than that, I am very impressed with the results it came out with. I'll definitely be giving it a shot and stitching together a higher res version of this and see how it comes out. Thanks so much for the recommendation.
