Hi guys!

Ok, here's the deal. Recently, I bought a 055XPROB and a 488RC2 head. I liked the easy-ness of mounting my camera on the tripod with the RC2 plate.

But now, there are some accesoiries that I'd like to buy that require the tripod screw. Is there a way I can use both the RC2 plate (and it still would be usable) while having an accessible and usable tripod screw under the camera?

Or do I need to take off the RC2 plate whenever I want to use the tripod screw? Or just plain and simple, unscrew the RC2 head, sell it and buy a RC0 (no quick-release) to screw on my 488?

What's your thought on this?

I use a tripod 80 percent of the time, and there is no accessory I want so much the other 20 percent of the time to make it worth annoying myself the other 80 percent of the time.

ShawnBC,
What accessories? ???
How about getting another plate and using it for your accessory? ???

I have some ideas but need to know yours so I can steer toward your needs.

I'm guessing a flash bracket, or a trekking pole/monopod where a QR adapter would add bulk and be a nuisance.

Check this out --

Essentially it's an RC2 plate with lugs on both sides to be used for attaching a hand strap (which I use it for). It has a thread for tripod use. A great product.

The add-on I am talking about is the Cotton Carrier camera holster, in which you need to screw a small plate under the camera to insert it and keep it locked in the vest.

I don't really get how I can have both (the tripod plate and the holster screw) in the same place. Is there a way I can leave the tripod plate on the camera all the time and just screw the holster screw on the tripod plate when I need it and take it off when not in use so I can mount my camera on the tripod?

I think what Sparksdjs posted could work because there is a tripod screw under the plate where I could screw the holster screw and take if off when not needed?

That would seem to be a real pain. You could either easily carry the camera on the holster or quickly mount/demount it from your tri/monopod. If you don't expect to need both at the same time, I'd suggest just swapping the plates. If you do, maybe mount the Cotton Carrier release post on a 323 mounting bracket, but then there's not a lot of point to using the Cotton holster. Or just detach the one and attach the other as needed.

Finally I found this in the FAQ on CC website:

14. Can I use a tripod mount with the CC camera system?

Yes, but you must purchase an additional release adapter from your tripod manufacturer (e.g. Manfrotto 323 RC2 System Quick Release Adapter, Really Right Stuff B2 mAS). First, you attach your tripod manufacturer s plate to your camera, then you attach the additional Quick Release Adapter. Next you thread the Cotton Carrier Camera Insert into the release adapter. Now your camera will slide into the Cotton Carrier Vest Harness or Second Holster Receptacle. You then use the quick release on the Quick Release Adapter to remove the camera from the Cotton Carrier and transfer the camera to the Quick Release Adapter on your tripod to use your camera on your tripod. We find this solution to provide you the best of both worlds by allowing you to use your tripod mount with the Cotton Carrier Camera System. Please note, we offer a custom set of camera inserts designed to work specifically with the Really Right Stuff (RRS) tripod system, so ensure you order this option if you use RRS.

Finally I found this in the FAQ on CC website:

Shawn...I've been using the CC with the Bogen QR plate from the 488RC2 just fine for the last 19 days shooting in Glacier/Yellowstone/Bryce/Zion.

It is simple. Bogen makes an item that has the base adapter and the same QR plate (the one that comes with your 488RC2. I think it retails around $30 USD. You just screw the CC adapter to the bottom of this Bogen base and you're done.

Hand held:

CC standard adapter (two of them come shipped with your CC order) -> Bogen QR base adapter -> Bogen QR plate (clamped into the Bogen adapter AND screwed into your camera body)

Leg mount:

You can leave the CC adapter+ Bogen base adapter mounted on the CC vest and/or side holster...just flip the lever on the Bogen base adapter and your camera with the Bogen QR plate comes off and clamps into your 488RC2.

Hope that helps
