Hi, I'm new to this forum so first post :D, anyways I'm thinking of upgrading my camera, have a budget of upto £1000. Just wondering what the general consensus is on which camera would be best. It would be used for all kinds of photography but specifically astrophotography so thats why I can't get a ccd camera. I'm thinking of either the Canon 40d or the 50d. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The single most popular DSLR for astro work is the canon 350, the 400 is now overtaking it. Some folks modify theirs to get a better image see here: http://www.hapg.org/camera%20mods.htm

I use an unmodded 40D with Light Pollution clip filter quite a bit and have found it to be excellent. Live view is a bonus.

I'm using n unmodified 10D (only because I upgraded and no-one would give me a fair price on a trade-in). Anyway, I've started to use my 85 F/1.8 lens with passable results. The 400 should serve you well.
