itunes and drivers are installed in WinXP,. played with itunes while charging the battery on the ipod.. now that it's charged.. I can't get things to work.

I tried both the Firewire and the USB2 connections.. (this is an Ipod+HP unit.. whatever that means)

The first time I connected the Ipod I had to do a full restore.
It flashed the firmware (presumably to make it Fat 32 and windows)

Now whenever the Ipod is connected,.
1. I can access it as a drive in Windows,.
2. The "Do Not Disconnect" warning is displayed on the Ipod's screen.
3. Itunes DOES NOT start automatically
4. Itunes DOES NOT see the Ipod, or display any Ipod functions, or display the Ipod in the "sources" menu.

I've disconnected and reconnected four times now.. I've connected with Itunes running and with it off.

In task manager the "Ipodservices.exe" is listed as loaded,. but it is using 0% resources.

That's it...
Any Ideas what I can do?

Oh and it is NOT transferring any music files while the "Do Not Disconnect" warning is displayed,.. there is no folder labeled "music" or any music files on the ipod in explorer.. just "calendars "Contacts" and "notes" and "Ipod control"

It is in fact doing nothing at all. I can even hear that the internal drive is not spun up.

Any Ideas at all?

This is exactly why I was reluctant to go "ipod" (see previous post if you care) I simply wanted something that I could transfer mp3s to and go... anytime software is needed.. it is broken and won't work :( :( :( :(

Thanks for the link Tim...

I just disconnected and reconnected again.. and suddenly it is downlaoding files to it.. and it's listed in "sources" in Itunes...

No idea why it worked this time.. I guess 8th time is the charm ?

Anyone uses the iPod photo with any success with their digital cameras?

I love my IPodo Photo. But I will be the first to tell you that it wasn't designed to be a PSD and that there are much better products on the market for the same cash. If you are wanting a PSD then check the Epson P-2000. If you can find one that is.

Those things are harder to find than a virgin the morning after prom night.

I'm sticking with my Low tech and dirt cheap "X-drives" for Photo storage on the go...

The I-pod is strictly music.. just the tandard 20GB... but wow it does a lot of stuff :) It came with the FM transmitter.. No effort at all on my part to get it working in the car now :)

Ok, well I do have the 60 GB iPod photo, so I was wondering how bad it sucked. Got the Camera Connector too, but not sure it'll be much fun if it'll drain the battery after offloading 1 GB worth of photos.

But it *rocks* as a music player and a small backup drive. Might consider using it as a backup while I'm out shooting a wedding this summer. My Powerbook have a total of 6 hours of effective battery life (two batteries) so I could actually hook up the iPod to it and copy photo's to it, just to have a backup if i need to empty the memory cards. Not sure if it's worth burning CD's or DVD's while "out on the field" since my Powerbook is the first with DVD burner and only burn in 1x speed.

Given the tiny size of the Ipod.. I'd think the Ipod photo would be a very handy Photo storage unit.. (the X-Drive is significantly larger! )

I just did not want to spend the $$ on the Photo since I allready had the X-drive.
But the Ipod is truly pocket size,. and probably can wihtstand a few bumps here and there while downloading....

The X-drive is neither pocket sized,. nor very good with bumps.. ;)

Oh yeah, the iPod's are sturdy buggers.... I have a 2nd generation too, but had to pick up a new iPod (photo) to use in my work to translate a book by Scott Kelby (from english to swedish) and I needed a machine with the more modern menues, my 2nd generation wasn't going to cut it. So hubby was extremely happy that he could take over my 20 GB oldPod and I got a cool and nifty iPod photo (it was such a small difference in price between 30 and 60 GB so I went the full Mounty on it).

Good thing is that this one is going to be tax decucable since I'm translating a book aobut iPods. Muahahahaaa... sometimes I love my occupation! :D

Oh, forgot to say that my OldPod was drowned in water and dropped a few times. Still runs like a charm!

Anyone uses the iPod photo with any success with their digital cameras?

Works like a dream with my canon 1d mk2 - after I did the software update on the ipod (took me about half a day to figure that out, a tad annoying).

Imports files from the camera, erases the card (optional), quick browsing of the images, and it's the perfect external harddrive/mp3-player.

With only 4 x 1gig cf-cards and assignments often exceeding that, the ipod photo is the perfect on-location portable imagedump device.

So it did handle to offload 4 gigs before the battery went bye-bye?
