So how does the magnification work with reverse macros?

I am using my 18-55mm kit lens with a 50mm reversed: http://www.tyleringram.com/blog/reverse-50mm-macro-trick-the-setup

So far I love doing macros this way, of course until I can afford to buy a dedicated macro lens.

I keep the kit lens at 55mm to reduce the barrel vignetting in the photos, but I'm always looking at ways to better my shots :)

The magnification is simply the ratio of the focal lengths of the lenses.
M= focal length main lens/focal length reversed lens.

Oh ok that makes sense then

my 18-55mm at 55m with my 50mm would be 1.1:1

If I used my 70-200mm then it would be 4:1, not that I have a 77mm to 52mm adapter ring lol.

Thanks!

Lots of possible combos but some may have impoossibly short focus distances or vignette very badly.

I see
This is the vignette I get when I'm at 55mm and it focuses. It's not bad, just means if I might crop a bit ;)

Then again when I do crop, it's not too bad
