Does bhphoto.com take a while for shipping? I ordered my 70-200mm f/4L this afternoon and selected UPS 2 day air.... I need the lens to shoot my brothers lacrosse game this sunday. Think it'll be here in time?
I know it's sort of stupid to be asking this question now... since there's of course nothing I can do about it, but I'd just like to know anyway. Thanks.

you should have no problems... they always ship promptly when I have ordered from them.

I assume you're talking about next Sunday. If so, it'll be there in plenty of time. If you're talking about today, you might have a problem.
B&H is very reliable.

I'm in New Jersey, and 90% of my orders are at my door within 24 hours of being placed.

If you have never ordered from B&H before they will phone you tomorrow to confirm your phone number. If you are not home, hopefully you have an answering machine, because they will leave a message for you to call a 1-800 number to confirm who you are and that indeed you did place the order.
The first time I ordered from them was on a Sunday also. Confirmed everything on the Monday evening, widgits were shipped on Tuesday morning and I received them on the Thursday (Alberta, Canada via UPS Expedited).
Their new customer process is a bit annoying, but the good thing is you only have to do this once as long as you don't change any of your billing details (same address, same phone number, same card).
Regards,
Bob

Yes they are slow. My friend and I combined our huge order (almost $3K worth of stuff) on 5-10-05 online in the morning and it didn't ship out until the 12th. Needless to say I was without my stuff when I needed it this weekend.

The size of the order doesn't really make much difference. If you ordered it early enought on the 10th, and if you paid for second day air, you should have had it on the 12th.
I'm on the west coast, and I've spent a lot of money at B&H, and it doesn't make any difference if I'm spending $20.00 or $6,000.00; they've never failed to make a promised ship date. I've gotten so many packages from them, the UPS drive now refers to them as my "Friends in New York."

Just to give you an idea, I ordered my 20-70 and a few other things on Thursday 5/5/05. It shipped out on Monday 5/9/05 and I received it on Wednesday 5/11/05. This was UPS 3 DAY.

Bear in mind that they close at noon on Friday and are closed until Sunday. UPS doesn't work on Sunday (I think), so weekends can cost a couple days.

I agree, the first time you buy all the follow-up calls, verifications, etc are annoying. Afterwards, the only remaining annoying thing is that they insist UPS get a signature for the delivery.
On balance I suppose that's not unreasonable but I live in an out-of-the-way area. I've had zero problems with packages left on the porch. A signed note left on the door was not enough. Long story short, a package scheduled for delivery on Friday had to wait until the following Monday; denying me the use of the new lens for a weekend event.
Just be sure someone is there to sign and take delivery.

We did place the order early enough in the day where it should of been processed and packaged. It's understood that not all orders can be processed due to the volume they must get. We did pay for 3-day shipping which we should of received on the 13th.
I know what you mean about receiving a bunch of packages from a retailer. I used to order mountain bike parts all the time from a particular online store and the UPS guy would tell me "more parts for your bike?"

I've ordered quite a bit from B&H with various amounts, and they're typically good about shipping next business day.
The only hangup I've had was new lens purchase (17-40mm) and they had left a message on my home voicemail to call an 800-number to verify. They called again on my cell, asking if I got the message and I asked the person calling if I could verify with him, but I couldn't, and was told to check my home voicemail for the number (he wouldn't give me the 800#), so I had to wait till I got home to call, which was past their business hours and a Friday, so I had to wait till Sunday to verify my order.

I've had that very situation, and the shipment did not actually move until late on Monday night.

Once I place an order it usually take 2-3 days for them to get it on a courier, but i'm in New Zealand using an international credit card, that's probably why it takes so long. Incidentally it takes about 6-7 days to get here once it's sent by UPS.

It takes about 5-6 days to me in Perth and that includes a lovely overnight stopover in Sydney where the goods stay until you pay import charges and GST to release them. Order Thursday and usually delivered the following Tuesday.

Yeah not too bad! Usually the whole process takes about a week.

I've been very happy with shipping from B&H. Lately I've been selecting USPS priority mail instead of UPS for delivery. Price is about the same, $.25 difference. For example, I placed an order last Tuesday afternoon, shipped Wednesday and it arrived on Friday 12PM via USPS to Georgia. If I had used UPS ground, I probably wouldn't have it until Monday.

Ditto, I should get my new EF 17-40L no later than Wed. The EF 100 macro was three day and I had it on Thurs. They've been great. Would love to go there in person and spend enormous amounts of money one day!

I've had mixed, but generally favorable results regarding when they get things out the door.
For the most part, if I order something during the evening (typical), they'll ship it out the next afternoon. The only time they let me down is when I ordered my 50mm f/1.8 and a bunch of lighting equipment (not a huge order, just several items) in two different orders, both on Monday evening (last week). Based on prior experience, they've usually shipped on Tuesday and, with UPS 3-day, everything arrives on Friday for weekend playing around.
This time, they kinda dropped the ball and shipped both orders on Wednesday. UPS indicates that all of the items are on the local truck to be delivered today. Would've liked to have had the weekend to play with it all, but oh well.

awesome! Sounds like for the most part bhphoto.com rocks. I wonder though, do they have the same great prices at their store? Better? Worse? It'd be fun to head down there sometime and drop a few $'s on something.

I think it depends on where they're pulling your order from. My camera/lens/electronic gear's always shipped within the day and been on my doorstep (3-day) the next business day. When I was ordering light stands, backdrops, and such it took until the next day for them to get it out and for the first order they wanted a signature on delivery (not signing the little UPS notification slip) on 1 of the 2 boxes (????).

When ever you order something from any body via UPS or Fed EX, you have to consider a few things. First, if you're ordering on a Saturday night, It won't get picked up until Monday morning, then it goes to the distribution center, then it gets put on a truck, and if you're shipping over land, it will continue either to the next center or directly to your local center. From there it gets put on a local truck who delivers it to your house. This takes a few days. They don't have a truck waiting at the door of the store with the motor running and deliver it directly to your house. Usually things take about 4 days to get to me from most places. What day you order has something to do with it too. UPS doesn't deliver on weekends, at least in my part of the country. So, that could hold up your order a little bit. Holidays in the middle of your parcels trip will hold it up too. I one ordered something from a warehouse in Louisiana, and the shipper gave me a tracking number when I ordered. I made a little game of it, tracking it as it went along. It went through 3 distribution centers, and took a day between each one, arriving on the 4th day. They say a watched pot never boils. Just don't think about it and you'll be surprised when it comes.

I ordered my new lens from B&H yesterday morning and they still have not shipped my order (haven't received shipping info via email and status on the website still says processing). They have taken the money out of my credit card. Have you experienced this before? This is not the first time I've purchased from them, or the second, or the third......

Sounds a little bit weird... but I wouldn't worry about it all that much. It's only been one day. Give it one more, and if you still don't get any confirmation call them or something.

My last order thru them was made on Tuesday Morning(past midnight Monday) online, they didn't ship till Thursday.
I stopped ordering from them unless no one else has it. I do like Canoga Camera though: Ordered that morning, and recieved a confirmation call that afternoon that it was shipped.

Speaking of numerous stops, my last UPS shipment from B&H (my new 50mm f/1.8 ) went like this:
5/11 - Maspeth, NY to Baltimore, MD
5/12 - Baltimore, MD to Raleigh, NC to Greensboro, NC
5/13 - Greensboro, NC to Spartanburg, SC to Doraville, GA
5/15 - Doraville, GA to Montgomery, AL
5/16 - Montgomery, AL to my house.

The last time I ordered from B&H on a Sunday, they shipped on the Monday morning. I placed another order last Sunday and it wasn't shipped until Tuesday night. I was surprised to see the day and a half delay, but wasn't concerned because I wasn't in a hurry to get my widgits.
Maybe they hit a snag of some sort on Monday ...

I have found that if you want to make sure that stuff gets placed and shipped promptly it is better to call in your order than submit it online.
Anybody else find that to be the case?
RbrtPtikLeoSeny
19th of May 2005 (Thu), 17:45
Hm, Toogy, no clue if that's true, but it does sound logical. Also seems like the time of week plays a big roll in shipping as well. I don't have much ordering experience, but I would suggest to anyone that they order monday evening or afternoon and select UPS 2 day air.

So I ordered early Tuesday morning and it didn't ship until Thursday night, I have to wait for my new lens until Monday. Adorama is even worse, the last time I ordered from them I also ordered on a Tuesday, and they didn't ship until Friday.
