Help please. Few weeks ago I noticed a purple spot (about 2 mm) on LDC screen of my Canon SD790. It's brighter while turning on/off but I can see it all the time while taking pictures and focusing. It's little irritating. But more than that I am worried - Would if spread more? Can it spread all over LCD so much so that my LCD screen becomes useless? What is it?

It might be affecting pictures but I don't know. I am not skilled enough (yet) to find out if it is affecting the pictures. Anybody seen this before? Any ideas? What should I do?

Can anybody diagnos this by looking at the picture taken from this camera? If yes, I can email the pics or post them here.

Thanks bunches.

If it is affecting your pictures, you could see it by zooming in on your computer to the spot where it is. If you don't have a computer handy, is it there when you review photos on the LCD? If so, zoom in on it and scroll around the picture. If the spot moves, it's on the sensor and is affecting the pictures. If it stays the same spot on the screen it's on the LCD. Likewise, if it's not on the review at all, it's the screen.

Is it associated with a bright light in the picture? If so it could be "sensor bloom", which is common on CCD sensors, but doesn't affect still photos, just the display and videos.

Thanks Jon. It does not move at all. It is on LCD screen same spot all the time. Light doesn't affect it.

It's bright purple/bluish same shape & spot. It is like a dead spot on LCD.

Should I contact Canon? Has anybody heard of something like this?

Yes, if it's outside the store's return period I'd send it back to Canon for service.

I think it is outside store normal return policy, I will inquire about the policy if something is defective. Otherwise I'll call canon.

Thanks !!

I guess I doubt that they will fix it but worth a try! anyway I would not guess this sort of spot would spread.

Why would they not fix it? If it's something wrong with the camera then that same problem may appear at more spots then I won't be able to use LCD. It's less than 1 yr old.
I hope they do something otherwise I'm wasting shipping on it.
