Along with my other recent thread, my friend and I were walking around campus and I was taking some shots. We got down to the bell tower, and I decided to give a few angles a shot, and I liked this one. Too bad it was getting pretty late and there wasn't too much light out. I had to expose this quite a bit more via RAW, so the coloring isn't too great, and I'm not sure how to get it back. For that reason, I decided to give B&W a shot also, to see how it looked.

I hope to go back with better light and redo it, but which do you think looks better? Any tips on how I can get manage to get it to look more decent? I have the RAW files, so I can reprocess it if necessary...

I like the shot its a little dark on both color and B&W Might want to lighten it up just a tad otherwise good shot.

the shot is ok but here is my 2 cents

1. i would have not included your buddy in the picture as it is more of an architechural shot and he looks out of place.
2.the black and white is very drab. more like gray, dark gray and light gray. no blacks or whites there. there is a great tutorial on b and w conversion here: http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html

give it a shot, you will like the results alot better.

here is a quick edit, though the raw file would help.

Thanks for that link, I'll definitely be using it.

I know the shot itself is kinda drab, which is why I want to redo it... the picture was taken at almost 8pm, and I was lacking heavily on light. I should have bumped the ISO up but didn't, and I didn't have my external flash on me, and using the on-board flash made it look horrible. What you see here is the result from drastically pushing up the exposure on the RAW image, and I haven't done enough work with RAW yet to know how to go about getting color detail back, let alone making black and whites.

edit:
yeah, that does look a lot better, thanks a lot
