OK, what is the biggest aperture that the 350D 18-55 lens is supposed to have? Sometimes it wil not go below 5.6, and at other it goes down to 3.5. Lat night it though that it's lowest value was 4.5.

Is this a firmware bug, or are there little hidden functionalities that I do not nkow about? I recon the camera may be confused.

Anybody know anything about this?

Largest on the 18-55mm kit lense is 3.5 at 18mm and 5.6 at 55mm.

It depends on how much you're zoomed in.

It sure sounds like user error.

Jackal, I am used to manual camera, and would still prefer them. (I am actually looking at buying the Epson Rangefinder) Why would the maximum aperture differ depending on the zoom?

This is common with many zoom lenses.

It's the way the lens is designed. You might prefer a Tamron 28-75 which is F2.8 throughout its range, and is a much better quality lens overall.

You got to spend a little if you don't want your lens changing on you. Those kit lens are on the low end. That 18-35mm is like a f/3.5-5.6. When buying, always look to see if they give you values like that or if its just one value.
