CTR-301P and 580 EX II

Hi,

I have 580 EX II and Canon 50D, I'm looking at the CTR-301P wireless trigger, but not sure if i need the both receiver and transmitter or just the transmitter since 580 EX II already has wireless support.

You will need both as the 301P's work with RF and Canon Flashes use IR to talk to each other .

Please note that you cannot use E-TTL with CTR-301P. You will have to set the flash power manually.

Specify with the seller the cable you need to connect the CTR-301P receiver with 580EX II if you're planning to use the PC sync port.

Got the CTR-301P, tested about 50+ shots without any misfired. Nice and small. highly recommended. I haven't tested the range yet.
