Does anyone use a Canon Eyepiece Extender?
Because of an eye condition I have to wear gleaases all the time. Quite often I find the frame of my glasses getting in the way of my view, especially on portrait style shooting.
Do they make life easier for warers of glasses?
thanks

With the extender fitted you can see all of the view finder and the shooting details along the bottom with out pushing your glasses against the eye piece, also it keeps your nose off the screen this is why I have mine fitted.
Go to www.7dayshop.com they are £9-99p and made by Canon.
Hope this helps.:)

I use it to keep my nose off the screen of my 5D2. Best to take out the plastic lenses so as not to distort the view. There's a thread here with pictures on how to do that. Excellent accessory.

Thanks for the above :)
I have looked at the link, but the Eyepiece isnt for the 5dMK2 apparently

I would recommend, if possible, that you buy this item at a local camera shop so that you can try it first. Some photographers love them and other photographers hate them. I am somewhere in the middle. I use one on my 30D but not on my 40D because the 40D has a bit longer eye relief.

The downside to that particular Canon accessory is that it reduces viewfinder magnification by 30%, as described in one of reviews as if "looking through binoculars backward."
Also, extra bulge means it's more likely for the camera to get caught onto something or for the extender to fall off.
I'm grappling with the inconvenience of having to remove my sunglasses sometimes in order to get a better view of the image in the viewinder.
I did come across this but have not made the plunge yet (below is the link to model for 5d/5d mkII).

Thanks for all the information.
As it isnt too much money, I will go ahead and buy one, and hope it works well for me.

Sorry Ben did not know 7day only did the one, after reading on here yesterday I have removed the glass from the extender and it gives a normal view in the view finder and keeps my screen grease free.:D

I use one of these and it does make it a lot easier to use the viewfinder whilst wearing specs. The one I bought came with various adapters to fit it to any EOS camera. Looks like this one from 7-Day Shop (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=102569).

It's pretty useful if you remove the lenses. It still might vignette a bit, but it's more comfortable to use glasses with.

The EP-EX15 is the correct extender for the 5D2. That's what I use.
Don't be concerned about the altered "30%" view. Look here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6236614#post6236614) for a thread on how to remove the plastic lenses from the extender. It will not at all affect what you see through the viewfinder, you'll have the same view as without the extender, you'll still be able to see all four corners. The only thing will be that the extender will be open to the air and you may have to use a Rocketblower twice a year on it!
It works very well for me.

You can get an improvement in image sharpness if you press the back of the camera firmly against your nose and cheek. The mass of your face will help damp vibrations caused by the mirror (which can show up as subtle softness even to fairly high shutter speeds). It also materially decreases camera shake to press the back of the camera firmly into your face.
Then just wipe off the LCD, if necessary.
Do you guys have fudge on your faces, or what? I have some of the greasiest skin around, and it's hardly a bother for me--when the LCD is on, it can't be seen, and when the LCD is off, it doesn't matter.

For me it's not to do with a greasy "hooter", (British slang for nose), it's because I use glasses, and the rim gets in the way of portrait style photos most of the time! :)

I hate mine. I took it off. It didn't help me with either nose prints or using with glasses and while the extension stayed on the camera most of the time, the eyepiece wouldn't stay on the extender. After losing several, I took the extender off and realized I could see better by taking my glasses off and adjusting the dioptric knob. It's a pain to keep taking the glasses off, but I can see both the inner LCD and my subject better. Of course, I'm not nearly blind without my glasses like my wife is, so your milage may vary...

apply a bit of colorless nail polish so it stays on...i've also lost a couple of eyepieces before i did this.

I eventually used some Elmers, but the most annoying part was not seeing the same thing I do without it. Maybe the "remove the lens" technique would help, but I didn't know about it then and it really didn't do anything positive for me anyways.
