Hi,
I have a friend wedding coming in two weeks and he asked me to take his wedding photoes, I have a 30D with 17-85 lense and planing to rent a 5D to fit my 70-200 lense, is this a reasonable combination or i am missing anything here. Also i have one flash and i will install it on my 30D, do i need to get another flash for the 70-200 lense? It is my first wedding, but i am familiar with photographing people outdoor. Folks please give my your opinion.
Best regards,
Ayman

For the same money as renting a 5D you can probably rent a second 30D and a flash.

I thought the 5D will give me a better quality than the 30D in this type of photography.

5D will give you better images, but if you don't have a flash you'll be stuffed at night. The 17-85 is a fairly low end lens, i've used two and both really sucked. It won't work on a 5D. I'd put a standard zoom on the 5D as that's what you'll mostly use, and put the 70-200 on the 30D.

I don not have many choices for the lences, my plan now is to use the 17-85 on the 30D with the flash and the 70-200 on the 5D, but i was not sure if i need i flash for the 70-200 as well.

I agree with Tim, put the 70-200 on the 30D, simply because of the full sensor on the 5d. then your 17-85 would be a 17-85 instead of a 22-110 because of the crop.
If you are renting, get a flash. both of your lenses seem to be 4.5's you will need some form of light at the reception.

Hi,
Got another deal today, I have thchoice of getting 17-40 L and a flash, so i will fit the 17-40 on the 5D with a flash, and the 70-200 on the 30D with a flash also. The one thing is i am not sure about the 17-40, it looks like with the two lenses i am missing the 40 to 70 range.

just my $.02. shoot w/ your 30D. rent a comparable body for backup along with a 17-55 f2.8 IS . you mentioned you already have a flash (assuming a 430/550/580) and the 70-200 (f2.8?). you're ready to rock! a good bang-for-your-buck setup.
