I recently re-installed PSCS on a new computer and for the first time ever have a problem with the program hanging. It can occur at any time but is particularly bad while using the file browser with files of raw images. The new computer is a P4/3.2 with 1.5 Meg of memory and a large hard drive, it also has an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 video card. I have been working through the suggestions on the Adobe site - there is a whole page devoted to freezes in PS - but so far nothing works. Has anyone any suggestions?

Thanks

Sorry, no ideas but mine does it as well.
I get the feeling its to do with something running in the background as at work its running on a small mail server but at home its not to bad but my home PC is lower spec than the work one.

I don't have a lot of hope for this working, but try resetting the PS prefs & see what happens. IMMEDIATLY after you click to start PS, hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift until it loads, & see if it works any better.

If it's hanging the whole PC (mouse freezes) and you have to hard-reset then you most likely have a heat or a power supply problem. If it runs fine with your PC case off then you have a heat problem. Install more fans.

If it's just hanging itself hit ctrl+alt+delete, bring up the task manager and see what else is going on. Is the CPU being hammered? If so, by what. Is the memory usage way past your real memory and into the page file. Show the "Page Faults" column. Is there something really really high and increasing fast? If so then what?

Rather than ctrl+Alt+delete you can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to go direct to Task manager and still keep your windows visible
