I have noticed in some threads people put restrictions on usage and only offer web images on the CD. I wanted to get more feedback to cover my behind on what kind of licensing I should be putting on mine. Also am I giving up too much by offering not only web ready images but high res print images in my TFCD work.
I thank you for your time.

I generally will provide web-ready images and/or print ready images depending on what I've negotiated with the model ahead of time. I include a text file on the CD that outlines the restrictions and the allowed uses of the images provide (generally portfolio use only with credit to the photographer).

You are already giving up more than enough by working for free, but I have already made it known how I feel about that in the other thread. Seeing as how I am a professional and do this for a living and you are a hobbyist, some things may not apply but here you go anyways.
I NEVER ever give someone a CD. That just gives them the freedom to do what they want with your images. What they do get are digital contact sheets. They can pick the images they want retouched from that and those are for web use only. If they want commercial use of the photos to sell and redistribute, they pay extra for that. The amount all depends on what they want to use it for and how many images they want. Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the information. I responded to you in the other thread. I just don't know when to start charging. Maybe it is when people start asking how much do you charge (which happened to me recently) that one should consider coming up with an answer better than "duh I don't".

Of course the model or make up artist, or who ever else is involved in a TFP/CD arrangement has not given up any of thier time or provided anything of value to the photos :rolleyes::rolleyes:
For the TF work I have done I have usually provided around 10 images on a CD in high res and low res formats (labeled for print and for web use respectivly), as well some really cheap 6x4 prints.
In rare cases, where I have worked with the same model several times, and they have helped me with creative and artisitic work I have provided more images and larger prints.
As a result of being nice to one model I recieved several referals. She even thought I wasn't charging enough and told the referals I worked at a higher rate than I orginally quoted.
If your interested in doing any kind of photographery that involves models posing, then you need to be nice to them, and understand that they can add as much to an image as you can, and they need to be valued accordingly.
If a model wants me to shoot something specific for her, then I will charge her.
If I want to do something creative with a model, that she is also interested in, then I will do TF.
If I want to do something the model isn't interested in, then might pay her (but in reality I will just find a model who is interested and do TF).

For TFCD shoots I usually provide the model with 5 high res non watermarked web and print only images. The rest are low res watermarked images. I offer 3 free touch ups on any of the shots from the shoot. Renee you should also have paid and TF* contracts that indicate what you expect and what you are willing to provide from the shoot as well as a model release form. This way you can cover your tail. You don't want to do a shoot that gets commercial use and you don't get compensated for your work.JMO

I've been doing about what Moppie said. I normally tell them 10 hi and low res on a CD. But depending on the shoot and the model, I will allow them more. It's a hobby for me now. I also feel the way he says about their time as well.
