The dRebel I've got takes photos in 2:3 ratio, and I've been trying to find a printer that will print a 12x18 print? I haven't been able to do so. Is this just a strange format? I've been considering 13x19 which I've seen plenty of information regarding, but obviously 13:19 is not the same ratio as 2:3. Will a resizing program get me anything here? Also, does anyone know if it would be possible to just print a 12x18 on 13x19 and just have an inch white border around the whole thing to preserve the aspect? Basically I'm going to be printing out 4x6, and (hopefully) 12x18, and then having labs do the 20x30 work for me. I'm considering the R1800 or the i9900, should I be looking at anything else? I really would prefer to keep it under $1,000 for the printer. Thanks :)

An unaltered image from the Drebel will give you a print of 18" X 11.953" at 170.667 PPI . Is that close enough? 168 PPI will give a print slighty over 18 X 12, leaving some cropping room. Both easily fit a 13 X19 sheet. I use an Epson 2200 but any large format printer should work for you.

Perfect! I'll try out the 170.667 ppi and see how it goes on a 13x19, and then just get a matt for 18x12.. and if they want it w/o a mat, I guess they get the extra inch border. I'll play with some individual photos, some might work borderless at 13x19, others won't.
Now back to the tough decision.. 1800 v i9900 :) I'm leaning towards the 1800 at the moment.

Let me know if you are interested in a used Epson 2200. I'm looking to buy the 2400 and would like the extra cash. I also have lots of ink for the 2200. Send me an email if you are interested and we can talk price. steve@smaphoto.com

I may do that, but it could depend on your timeline. This is for a startup company, and I've still got to go to the bank for my loan approval. Could take some time :)

I have a I-9900 and print 11 x 14 all the time as frames are readily available in that size. It's no problem at all, the software lets you select the photo size you want and like you said it just leaves white borders around the edge. Your 12 x 18's would be no problem either.

Well, while I can't wait to get the 2400, I don't know when it becomes available--and I would need the cash from my 2200 to get it. So your timing might be just right!

You could print the image at 12x18 on 13x19 paper and enjoy a uniform 1/2" of border. Or, you can trim it off.
