There seems to be a problem with the zooming function of my 580 ex. I would like to open up the actual flash head portion of the flash and was wondering how difficult it would be to do this. the flash has trouble zooming from 35mm to 105mm but still works at 24mm and 28mm. i don't know how this happened as the flash was never abused.
or are there any camera repair places in los angeles that could handle something like this?

There is a Canon USA repair facility in Irvine, CA.
Enjoy! Lon

thanks for the thread, i found it just before you posted. so the problem actually was rather simple. the moving mechanism got off the guide and was pressed up against the side. I followed the procedures as shown in the thread and basically pulled the plastic edge piece down and back into the track. once i did that, whala!
another DIY victory.
thanks guys
