please help on how to make it better.

I'm not an expert but I know what I like in a photographic composition. I appreciate the effect that you were going for by capturing the vivid sunset but unless there was some reason not to...perhaps you should have turned your camera to the left more since the right half of your shot is consumed by the dark mass of clouds. Nice try though...please, next time resize the photo second photo, I've got a 22 inch monitor and I couldn't see the whole pic.

there's a little bit of haloing and the second pic is way too large.

Something like Nik Software's tonal contrast would work well on the original, I don't think there's really any reason to HDR this. You could also run it through photomatix at a strength of something like 50 with light smoothing on high.
