How slow can you hand hold at 50mm?

Depends on your hands. If your related to Kate Hepburn, its not going to be so slow. But the general rule of thumb is the reciprocal of the focal length, so generally it's 1/50 for a full frame camera and 1/80 for a crop.

Your technique will determine this as well. The thumbrule provided above is a good general guideline. Others can go a bit slower, others have to use a faster shutter speed. Bracing yourself, controlling your breathing, and your body position (elbows tucked in, good leg stance, etc.) can really help. I can hand hold down to about 1/30th on full frame.

Are you going to answer your own question?

My keeping rates:

80% at 1/30
90% at 1/40
99% at 1/50

I have held a 50mm on a Digital SLR at 1/8th of a second and got a sharp result

I've done 1/5th of a second on a full frame but I had my elbows on a table. 1/10th for just hands (also on FF).

I think 1/30, with a 400D.
I've got shots with slower shutter speeds, but they're not really keepers.

I can hold at 1/2000 sec, no problem. Sometimes 1/1000, as long as there's no breeze.

Scottes...your settings might not be far off based on this link http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=739955
and the info in the treatise.

Yeah, I'm reading that now. Apparently I shouldn't use f/32 all the time, either. :D
