The Powershot SD 880 IS is a fantastic point and shoot camera. It has IS, a wide angle lens, 4x zoom and great image quality. I bought one a few weeks back to carry around when I don't feel like lugging a DSLR. His Highness Lord Rockwell says it's one of the best point and shoot cameras around (http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/compacts/sd880.htm).
A friend was just asking for digital camera suggestions so I checked out Amazon (where I got mine for $300) and discovered they're now selling it in gold for $500 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD880IS-Stabilized-Gold/dp/B001G5ZTO0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250537104&sr=8-2), and in silver for $1,000 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD880IS-Stabilized-Silver/dp/B001G5ZTN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250537104&sr=8-1)!
Wow.

I read up on its successor, the SD 960 IS, but the consensus seemed to be that the 880 has much better IQ. I was looking for a P&S with a wide angle lens, so the 880 was the best choice for me.

people need to stop doing this. read it closely, amazon's prices are still very stable. it's their vendors who have ridiculous prices. amazon doesn't price police it's vendors.

Try KEH.com for a used one. I bought a SD870 for $200, a few weeks ago.
