I got a call this evening from the mother of a high school kid that plays on the same football team as my son, she wanted to know what kind of camera she needed to get to take good action pictures of her son while at the games. Now, this woman knows I take pictures at the games and sell them on a website but she has never bought any. Anyway, I told her that all I really have experience with is Canon equipment, and if she wanted my recommendation then a Canon DSLR was a good starting point, she then responded with, "What's a DSLR?" I tried my best to explain it to her...interchangeable lenses, more control over shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc... and then she asks, "Well how much will it cost me to take good pictures from the sidelines?" I then asked her for her e-mail address and later that night sent her a picture I had taken the night before at a scrimmage game which just happened to be a great shot of her son in action on the field (watermarked). I had her look at it and asked "Like that one?" She responded with, "Yes! like that! I love that picture!" I told her that picture took about $1000 dollars in equipment to make, and had the sun not been out and the stadium lights on then I would have had to use a different lens which costs about $1100 by itself. She then asked for the link to the website and said "I think I'll just let you do the pictures" Man did I save her a bunch of money!;)
