I just bought a "starter" kit from Bowens..

It comes with the sync cable and two lights..

I am having difficult using the flash with the sync cabel. When I connect the cable to the cam it does not fire the flash when I use the camera.

I have tried diffrent settings, ie shooting in manual mode, Av and so on, but the flash does not fire. It is as if the camera does not send any signal to the light.

Could anyone point me in the right direction.. I gather it's just something I have to turn on in the camera settings or?

Thanks

The lights should work with out having to flip any additional switches. one huge issue with using sync cords is that the connection comes loose often, without a locking sync cord I have always had to push mine in while shooting. One thins you can try just to make sure everything is to trigger it with another strobe I'm pretty sure that bowens have light sensors on them as long as you turn them on. Does it fire by pressing the test button? if not your flash tube could be loose. oh and you want to be shooting in manual I have a 5d Mark II and it works just fine with my photoflex strobes.

Just in case you're using Live View--go into the menu and turn off Silent Shooting. The flash does not fire in Live View with Silent Shooting enabled (it's enabled by default).

If you're going to use a sync cable, I strongly recommend getting a "Nikon Screwlock" cable that can screw into the PC port. Don't try to tighten an ordinary PC terminal--there is a significant danger of breaking off the stem in the camera. Just get a Nikon Screwlock and screw it in securely and safely.

If you're going to get a sync cord with a Nikon screw lock I highly recommend buying from Lon at FlashZebra.
