The government of Canada is in the process of reviewing their copyright policies or as they call is "copyright modernization". The website to read about this can be see at Canadian Copyright Consultations (http://copyright.econsultation.ca/) and I urge my fellow Canadians or even others to get involved and let them know what you think.
Did a search and could not find this anywhere so hopefully it is not a dupe.

I see someone is suggesting Creative Commons as a starting point which is fine for discussion purposes but I don't like CC in general. I would like to see a registration system like the US has so that there is no question about the origination of the photo. Since this is a government initiative we will probably still be talking about it in 5 years from now. I just ran across this yesterday so I will be taking a few days and put in a submission to them.

The 'modernization' is being driven by our Canadian media industry lobby, so I wouldn't wait too long. The gov seems intent on creating the Canadian version of the DMCA, and they are in a hurry...

I agree, but at least they're finally taking things into consideration. Why our system is so much different from the USA's is I don't know..I imagine it's especially troubling when your clients come from the USA or are USA based.
I'd say the canadian copyright re-evaluation is about as hot a topic right now as the orphan works act that's been so controversial (though I can't remember if that's USA or canada)
If they do anything to clean things up it will be an improvement
