I have been fairly unhappy with the display of photo's on my laptop as opposed to other computers, which I mainly attribute to it not being calibrated or holding calibration... It is a latitude d800 with the high end wide screen...

I travel about 95% of the time for work, so getting a monitor to bring along really won't be an option.

are the displays on the powerbooks any better for color management and post processing?

As a side note, are the macs (with the cinema display's) that superior to a properly calibrated windows based CRT?

I have no intention of leaving windows based computing, and I would welcome education opinions, but I really have no intention of starting a mac vs. pc thread...

Thanx for your thoughts..

-Steve

NO, Important thing to do is to calibrate your equipment.

I'm using an Apple iBook G4 for my trips, and for editing images when required. The IMPORTANT key is to calibrate your monitor. It makes all the difference in the world.

After my recent trip to DC...I'm getting a Powerbook 17 for my next trip.

Calibration is key. As far as the LCD or CRT issue. I was speaking with an Apple sales person in an Apple store a few weeks ago, and he said that the new Apple displays are great, but he would stay with a good CRT (NEC/Mitubishi, Lace, or Sony Artisan) for any imaging work such as color correction and retouching.
As far as laptop displays go, I have a Sony Vaio 15" laptop. I calibrate it with the GretagMacbeth eye-one. When I was selecting a laptop, I thought about a Dell, but because I could not look at the display first, I decided to only go with a laptop that I could check out it's display first.

I have a slideshow display that I show to potential clients, so it was key that a display had to be not good but great. I took a CD with the slideshow on it and ran it in a lot of laptops in stores. You would be surprised at how bad some displays look next to each other. I found the sony to be the best as far as contrast, clarity, and color.
