i think if it was not for the leaves in the top right corner I would have to look very close to guess it was selective color. I like to have a little more separation between the color and the black and white.

Yeah, the leaves are the only thing, and I can only tell that b/c I'm looking for it... otherwise I'd just think it's not a very colorful photo taken on an overcast day.

Please don't take this as sounding harsh, but there are other major issues with this photo, that selective coloring is not going to help. The picture itself it rather uninteresting. Your subject is dead center in the frame and takes up only a very small amount of the frame. Lighting appears to flat and duck is underexposed.

My suggestion would to be learn the basics first. Pickup a copy of Understanding Exposure. Once you begin learning what makes a good photograph then move onto more advanced techniques.

this was taken yesterday around 6:20am and its not overcast at all. i think its the pond, which is quite murky. thanks for the c&c.
