Hello,

recently I was presented with an oportunity to purchase RSS BH-55 ballhead for a very reasonable price and I took advantage of it - I will have the toy in my hands next monday.

Yes, I know - BH-55 is from For-Big-Things closet, and I currently do not have any of that, but I just could not help myself.

Now the important question - has anyone used said BH-55 on Manfrotto 055XPROB? As far as my research had shown me - that tripod is in a price/performance sweetspot. Are there any known deficiencies for this combination? Or maybe it would be smarter to invest in Gitzo - although Gitzos with similar features start at twice the price of 055XPROB here.

Any insight would be very welcome.

Thanks.

The alloy 055B with even a lightweight head is quite hefty. With the hefty BH55 it may well prove to be a studio brute that does not well go portable all day on hikes with you. I had a Manfrotto 3021, the precursor to the 055, with a light Linhof ProfiII head and QR (the head weights 17 oz, one ounce more than a Markins M10) and the combo was about 7 lbs.
