Obtained with the canon 100-400, waiting to buy the canon 400 f/5.6.

Should do. The only thing it normally does is add another f stop, other than that the extender/lens combination works as per normal.

No custom setting required, but you do need to tape three of the pins to fool the system into working. Details of the mod are in a sticky here somewhere.

It will obviously not be as quick to AF as it is without the converter, but I use my 100-400 with a 1.4x Kenko 300 PRO to shoot motorsport and have no problems with it in that regard.

Thank you all for your contributions.
The camera I have is the Canon 1D Mark III which do not lose the autofocus with the Canon 400 f/5.6.
But I'm considering buying the 300 f/2.8 as it is the best focal canon.
