...bearing in mind that the switches and distance scale need to be accessible? While it`s lovely to have an L lens, when I am in the field, I don`t want the sun reflecting off the lens and scaring wildlife away, but I don`t want to start sticking camouflage tape to my fresh-out-of-the box lens just yet.

One word......Krylon :) Just kidding.
How about an old long sleve camo t-shirt. Just cut the sleve off long enough to fit over the lens. Use the cuff around the lens hood. Cut a hole to access the switches and buttons.
Just a thought.

Buy some camouflage scrim which I find perfect, you can use as a scarf as well, I drape over the lens body and it helps break up your shape as well .

If people want to judge me by the colour of my lens, that's their problem, not mine.

For things like that (and some rain protection) I've cut a hole in the corner of a black garbage bag and then taped the hole to the hood of my lens. How effective that works depends on the lens, but most tele lenses it works great with and gives you a good hood.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I particularly like the one of cutting a sleeve off a camo t-shirt - if it`s cotton jersey, it would be nice an stretchy.

Shirt sleeve is good,. Polo horse leggings,. and darker colored ACE bandages work well too.
The ladies in the Womens workout gym clothes dept. have other ideas of why I'm buying leg warmers...

Would this do as a disguise or does it need the fake moustache as well?

I don't see a lens, just a funny looking dog wearing glasses ;)

Pete : those covers are so well-fitting that the lenses look custom-enamelled! Hmm, I`m pretty good with the sewing machine, so as it`s raining here and I can`t get out with the camera, I might trying making some. It will give me something creative to do.
C-zen : You forgot the wig!

Well, I got out the sewing machine, and although the cover I made is OK, it slips round the barrel of the lens when I hold it.
Pete : Are the covers you recommended available on-line, and, if so, where?
Thanks
