I'm going to do some nice family portraits since we haven't done it since I was 13. I know very little about studio lighting and how it all works, so a lot of trial and error will be taking place here.

I was thinking about renting an Elichrome 1200 and 600, both with nice softboxes and stands. Anyone recommend anything else, and most important, what battery pack do I need? All this will be rented.

From the sound of it you are going to be shooting at a location that has no power. I would skip the elinchroms as they need power. I would start here

I don't have experience with either but quickly looking over the link you posted. This is where I would start if I could afford to. JOhn

What's the difference between a pack and a battery?
